Seeing your agency on the F-List might come with mixed feelings. You might wonder if anyone else at your agency feels the same way – but you are not alone. We’ve not seen a single instance of someone joining Clean Creatives and finding no support from any of their colleagues.
Whether you’re an employee looking to find your allies or a manager with the influence to change how client decisions are made, there is a role for you here. Asking for change at your workplace is a big challenge, and it can be scary. Our goal is to help you approach it with as much knowledge, clarity and power as possible.
Your agency is on the F-List because we found evidence that showed at least one active contract between your agency and a fossil fuel company in 2025 or 2026. Every listing is sourced form at least three public records like lobbying databases, government filings, award show entries, LinkedIn ads, and creative portfolios.
If you believe a listing is inaccurate or you know something we should know, reach out.

We consider a fossil fuel company to be:
A list of companies and lobby groups meeting our definition is available in our fossil client database.

Not necessarily. The F-List is built entirely from public records, which means we only publish what we can verify. Undisclosed contracts exist.
If you’re unsure about your agency’s client list, ask. Does your agency have a policy that addresses fossil fuel work? Have they considered signing the Clean Creatives pledge? You can also sign the pledge as an individual creative, regardless of where your agency stands.

First: you are not alone. We have never seen someone join Clean Creatives and find no support from any of their colleagues. There will be people at your agency who feel the same way — finding them is your first step.Â
Start small. Share the F-List with colleagues, “has anyone seen this?” is enough to start a conversation without taking a public position. Pay attention to who reacts positively and invite them to chat.Â
Sign the Clean Creatives pledge as an individual and let us know. We can connect you with others at your agency who have already signed.

Asking for change at your workplace is a big challenge, and it can be scary. Our Agency Activist Toolkit was written by creatives who have been through this process themselves. It walks you through every step with real quotes and advice from agency activists across the industry.
Start by understanding your agency’s exposure. Which fossil fuel contracts are active, when do they end? What revenue do fossil fuel clients represent as a share of your business? The Off Ramp report shows that fossil fuel marketing represents less than 1% of global ad spend. For most agencies, the financial risk of exiting this work is smaller than it looks.
Share the F-List with colleagues, “has anyone seen this?” is enough to start a conversation without taking a public position. Pay attention to how people react and invite them to chat to learn more about where their stance comes from.
From there, use ACT Climate Labs’ Blueprint to Phase Out Fossil Fuel Advertising. It gives you a practical way to start phasing out fossil fuel advertising, from working out what you are exposed to and managing existing contracts, to finding new opportunities for growth. It also makes it easier to get the whole agency moving, with practical steps for leadership, finance, client teams, legal, and operations to work together.
Our Agency Activist Toolkit also outlines a hierarchy of milestones so you can map a realistic path forward for your agency. And when you’re ready, reach out. We have agency leaders around the world who have been through this process and offered to share their experience with peers. You don’t have to figure it out alone.

It’s a reasonable question, but the evidence doesn’t support it. The industry is only investing about 1% of its capital expenditures on renewable energy and carbon capture combined. The fossil fuel industry is not transitioning. In fact, most oil majors have publicly told investors they plan to increase exploration and production over the next 30 years.
Agencies don’t set their clients’ operational and financial decisions. Once those decisions are made, agencies are the megaphone. Giving the fossil fuel industry access to creative talent like yours doesn’t change their business model. It makes their messaging more convincing.Â
Our Toxic Accounts report documents how fossil fuel ad narratives have shifted in recent years from greenwashing to gaslighting. The work is getting more sophisticated, not more honest.
Stepping away until these companies do the work that is needed is the clearest signal creatives can send.

The fossil fuel industry is the biggest driver of the climate crisis, the biggest source of climate disinformation, and the biggest barrier to climate action. They have misled the public about climate change for decades, and continue to obstruct climate action.
This isn’t only about carbon emissions. Fossil fuels drive health crises, fuel political instability, cause wars, and raise the cost of everything. If we can break the link between the communications industry and fossil fuel influence, it becomes significantly easier to address every other problem that follows from it.
If you have concerns about other clients your agency works with, Clean Creatives doesn’t have a formal position, but we’d encourage you to apply the same principles and start the conversation.
