The ocean health agency with a long standing BP contract

UK-based BLUE Communications built its public profile around environmental and ocean health, highlighting its work with decarbonisation, offshore wind and clients such as Netherlands-based GoodFuels. The agency was awarded “Best ESG Campaign” in the 2023 ESG Awards and has marketed that they help clients with “avoiding greenwash and ensuring ESG communications withstand scrutiny”. That sustainability positioning has since been removed from its website.

What BLUE’s public profile doesn’t mention is its longstanding Loyal to Oil relationship with Castrol, BP’s lubricants subsidiary, which the F-List shows has been active since at least 2014. This relationship involves BLUE working closely with Castrol in designing their marine and energy strategy, and supporting Castrol’s global brand and thought leadership in marine lubricants.

One of the world’s largest oil and gas majors, BP is responsible for the Deepwater Horizon disaster in 2010 – the largest marine oil spill in US history in which an estimated 134 million gallons of oil was spilled into the Gulf of Mexico over 87 days, killing 82,000 birds across at least 102 species and leaving a decades-long threat to marine mammal reproduction.

BP’s energy production is 99% from oil and gas.
